Amrita Nag

BV Derm Medical Assistant Success Story

Amrita is a student at the University of Illinois School of Medicine. Amrita was with BV Derm, nearly 2 1⁄2  years.

What is the most important thing you learned during your time as a MA?
Communication and collaboration are most essential in healthcare to provide efficient and quality patient care.

What made you want to go back to school at this point in your life?
I always knew I would return to school and pursue a career in medicine, but I wanted to get more hands-on experience in the field before committing to any path.

Have you always wanted to be a physician, or did this career path evolve over time?
Yes, I’ve always wanted to be a doctor. The idea may have meandered while I was growing up and getting exposed to other professions, but it was always at the back of my mind.

What did you learn from the team at BV Derm?
Apart from learning the intricacies of working in a medical clinic, assisting in surgeries, and effectively communicating with patients, I also developed a strong sense of independence and responsibility. Being a part of the BVCD team has helped me to understand the kind of healthcare professional and person I aspire to be.

What challenges do you think you will face in the next few years?
The biggest challenge I face is balancing my life. I am very invested in becoming a great student and future physician, but I also want to cherish all the precious moments that life has to offer and prioritize the people in it.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by having a sense of purpose and by people who are passionate and motivated about whatever it is that they care deeply about.

What are your hobbies and passions, outside of school and work?
I am a big fan of live music, whether it’s listening to it or playing it. I recently got into pickleball and weightlifting, and I have always loved playing chess, shopping, and reading.
